It’s a pretty big deal here in Houston.
The start of the season is a little bitter sweet though. Because it always seems that just as the rodeo starts up, you blink and it’s already in its closing days.
When you’re a kid you have no concept of time. Or when seasons really are. Our childhoods are dictated by the 3ish months of summer vacation, the 2ish weeks for Christmas, and the 1 week of Spring Break.
Us in the “working” class (meaning blue/white collar) hardly get to enjoy much time off. Oh how I wouldn’t enjoy just stepping out of the office on one of Houston’s good weather days and just relaxing. But I guess that’s just life. We all grow up huh?
But I believe that Houston’s rodeo season should be celebrated and enjoyed!! Heck, it’s only here for 20ish days of the year. It’s the only time when even the slickest of city slickers don their cowboy boots and big belt buckles. It’s these next few days in which all the Texan stereotypes come to life. We’ve got BBQ, country music, a carnival, livestock shows, cowboys and cowgirls, trail riders and PBR….it’s like the wild west!!
“wicked, wicked wild…wicked wild, wicked wild wild west, Jim West desperado, rough riders no you don’t want nada” (yes the theme song to Will Smith’s Wild West movie). Yes, I am cheesy. Lol!!
Yeehaw!! Let the rodeo festivities begin!!
